Hello

Greetings! I'm Alvin Barnes, based in Jackson, Mississippi.
My journey has taken me from the heart of Mississippi politics to the dynamic world of business and law. With a rich background as a former political leader, I now channel my experience and skills into the private sector, serving as an accountant, paralegal, and small business consultant.

About Me
From a young age, I've been captivated by politics, a passion that led me to join and eventually lead various organizations dedicated to social justice and political advocacy. My involvement with the Young Democrats of Mississippi and Organizing for Action (OFA) provided me with invaluable experience in organizing impactful marches, protests, and voter registration drives.

During my time at Tougaloo College, I had the honor of serving as the President of the NAACP Tougaloo College Chapter, where I led the largest get-out-the-vote effort the campus had seen in years and organized successful fundraising events. These experiences have shaped my commitment to driving positive change in my community and beyond.

Current Focus
Today, I apply my expertise in the private sector, offering services as an accountant and paralegal while also consulting for small businesses. My work as a project manager allows me to help businesses grow and succeed by providing strategic guidance and support.

About Alvin Barnes
From Political Activism to Empowering Businesses: The Journey of Alvin Barnes
Alvin Barnes, hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, is a figure whose life has been shaped by a deep commitment to public service, political activism, and now, business empowerment. His journey, marked by leadership roles and a dedication to social justice, reflects a passion for making a tangible difference in his community and beyond.

Early Years: A Passion for Politics and Government
Alvin's interest in politics began at a young age, sparked by a natural curiosity about governance and a desire to effect change. Encouraged by his mother, Alvin took his first steps into the world of politics during his senior year of high school by joining the Young Democrats of Mississippi.

His early involvement was not without its challenges. Upon joining, Alvin discovered that the organization lacked a chapter in Hinds County, the home of Mississippi's state capital. Undeterred, Alvin took it upon himself to organize and charter the Hinds County Young Democrats chapter in March 2017, where he served as its first vice president. This achievement marked the beginning of a promising political career, setting the stage for further leadership roles.

Leadership in Statewide Political Organizations
Impressed by his work with the Young Democrats, Alvin was selected by Organizing for Action (OFA), President Barack Obama’s political action organization, to reestablish its presence in Mississippi. In June 2017, at just 18 years old, Alvin became the youngest organizing manager and state leader for OFA Mississippi.

In this role, Alvin organized and led various marches and protests, advocating for critical issues such as healthcare reform and equal justice. His leadership during these events demonstrated his ability to mobilize communities and drive meaningful change. These efforts solidified his reputation as a dedicated and effective organizer.

Alvin’s work with OFA caught the attention of the Young Democrats of Mississippi, who appointed him as the Field Director for the entire state in January 2018. In this capacity, Alvin conducted a statewide chapter audit, ensuring that local chapters were functioning effectively and aligned with the organization's goals. Although he faced challenges, Alvin embraced these as learning opportunities, refining his skills and deepening his commitment to political advocacy.

College Years: Leading Change at Tougaloo College
Alvin’s leadership extended to his college years at Tougaloo College, where his off-campus achievements earned him recognition within the academic community. In April 2018, he was elected President of the Tougaloo Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

As NAACP president, Alvin led the most significant get-out-the-vote effort in the college's recent history through the "Tougaloo Votes" campaign. This initiative resulted in a remarkable increase in voter registration and turnout during the 2018 midterm elections, showcasing Alvin’s ability to inspire and mobilize his peers.

Under his leadership, the chapter also hosted the inaugural Derrick Johnson Freedom Fund Awards Gala, which became its most successful fundraising event. The success of this event earned the chapter the Juanita Jackson Most Active Chapter Award from the state chapter of the NAACP. These accomplishments highlight Alvin’s ability to lead with vision and execute with precision.

One of Alvin’s most memorable achievements during his time at Tougaloo was organizing and leading the March for Our Lives in Jackson, Mississippi, in response to the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. This youth-organized march was one of the largest in the state’s history, drawing over 300 participants and underscoring Alvin’s commitment to social justice and community activism.

Alvin’s contributions to political activism and community leadership have been recognized through numerous awards and honors, including:
